New Full Featured 586 Level POS Board Is Low Power Industry Leader

Advantech has just released the new POS-563 Geode™ processor-based control board that offers a wide range of features perfect for the POS application market. Equipped with a Geode GX1-233 processor that leads the Pentium® level processor class in power usage, heat dissipation and performance, the POS-563's rugged industrial construction, full capabilities and fanless operation make it the ideal platform for POS applications such as supermarkets, retail stores, medical equipment, entertainment appliances, ATM machines, hotels and restaurants as well as public transit systems. But most importantly, the combination of National Semiconductor's long term guarantee and commitment to their Geode processor line (3+ years) plus Advantech's dedicated support, ensures a product that will stand the test of time.

Powerful, Flexible and Efficient

The POS-563 embodies qualities that distinguish it and Advantech from its competitors. First, the POS-563 is made with industrial grade construction that can better withstand constant 24 hour a day use, high vibration, shock, exposure to humidity, moisture and heat. The majority of POS control board manufacturers simply use modified consumer market motherboards not designed to withstand challenging POS operating environments. Next, the GX1-233 processor allows for fanless operation that virtually eliminates heat buildup problems that has traditionally been the number one cause of failure in enclosed POS systems.

The POS-563 has four digital I/Os and four onboard serial ports each with +5 V/+12 V power. These flexible I/Os have standard OLE interfacing that allow for application hardware independence to be realized. Peripherals ranging from bar code scanners, card readers, printers, cash drawers etc.. are all easily supported. The POS-563 uses a standardized layout based on Western Digital's LPM/LPX form factor. It is 100% PC compatible and ready for any existing PC software or hardware. Other features include a C&T69000 VGA/LCD controller for DSTN panels up to 36-bit XGA TFT LCD panels, 10/100 Mbps PCI Ethernet interface with wake-on-LAN support, 2x USB, 4 Mbps FIR, watchdog timer software enabled/disabled 1 ~ 62 sec. selectable, AC97 audio interface, 16 MB onboard DRAM, one socket for DiskOnChip® and one DIMM socket for up to 128 MB SDRAM support.

Bringing Experience to the Table

The POS-563 control board is a product that leverages Advantech's experience and capabilities. Advantech has fifteen years of service, R&D, manufacturing and integration experience with similar products. Advantech's industrial environment SBC and chassis experience lends itself well to understanding the needs of the POS operating environment. This is experience Advantech is willing to share with our customers.
