New POS-7671 Breaking Traditional POS Barriers

Supporting innovative POS and POI solutions with a powerful, flexible and small-sized platform, is the key to the new POS-7671 application board. As introduced in the May 15th EPC Newsletter, the POS-7671 utilizes a smart arrangement of I/O connectors on an 8" x 5.75" EBX form factor board that gives integrators a price competitive platform with maximum performance and flexibility. This configuration allows for greater POS chassis flexibility with all the features and power to handle more innovative solutions, yet still maintains all traditional POS needs. The picture shown below is the POS-7105 I/O board. This board (which is the same length as the POS-7671), can go wherever it is needed. It simply connects to the POS-7671 by cable. Also, depending on the application needs, selected I/O can be selectively used (without using the POS-7105 I/O board). This allows integrators the flexibility to custom design their output configuration and locations, by simply changing their cabling.

More Power, More Features, More Flexibility

• The POS-7671's Socket 370 design supports Intel Pentium III/Celeron processors up to 1 GHz (133/100 MHz FSB) for high speed/performance or fast low power/fanless Pentium III processors.

• The SMI Lynx 721 (4 MB onchip memory) supports dual LCD or CRT that is being seen in some of the newest and most dynamic applications. For example, for POS applications, customers can view (and interact with) one LCD screen while another LCD screen is used by the sales staff for touch screen entry. Dual screen support is also great for more dynamic POI applications by offering dual input/output screen venues for customers that is proving more effective than traditional single screen "click and wait" kiosks. Once again, all this has been achieved on a super-small platform.

• The compact size and flexible I/O arrangement give the POS-7671 the ability to fit more versatile POS applications. Larger traditional POS boards have limited applications to unattractive "box like" applications, with sometimes very inflexible output configuration. Designers are demanding better and more flexible platforms for their POS applications, while keeping costs down. Advantech is delivering.
