Development Kits (PDKs) and Windows® CE operating system integration

The training
class, which is slated to begin this July, is perhaps the most
effective training class in the embedded industry today. Customers
are given a combination of classroom and hardware/software lab
experience that is well focused and useful. Using actual SOM Development
Kits (CPU module, development board and pre-installed Windows
CE 3.0 Image), Advantech engineers show and assist attendees with
the "real life" obstacles typically faced during application development.
These include setting up and using Platform Builder 3.0 to configure
Windows CE and perform different modifications that can be done
to a platform during the configuration stage, plus critical tips
on how to incorporate their own application-specific device drivers
to their application. What is unique though, after customers leave
this training with an embedded development kit in hand, and are
happy with their software and development board functionality,
they can immediately apply for Advantech's 30 Days Design To Order
Service (DTOS™). This guarantees them a tailored solution board
within 30 days. Advantech feels this practical, solution-focused
training, helps our customers with their short and long term business
needs.
The
Right Hardware and Software Solution
The SOM Development
Kit comes with a pre-installed and tested Microsoft Windows CE
3.0 OS on Flash disk, the SOM CPU module of choice and corresponding
development board, a Windows CE license, device drivers for onboard
devices, utility and sample programs and a users manual. Advantech
is also developing a similar solution for the next Windows CE
release, code named "Talisker". Also included is a null modem
serial cable and CESH parallel cable. It is a cost effective solution
that leverages previous software and hardware experience, plus
greatly shortens application time-to-market. Windows CE includes
proven technologies such as Win32, MFC, Component Object Module
(COM), Visual Basic and others. It is a compact and stable embedded
operating system that meets the needs of many of today's small
footprint, mobile smart devices. Our software team specializes
in developing device drivers and hardware dependent software for
TV/Tuners, Digital Video Recording, multiple I/O accessing and
others, all of which utilize Windows CE platforms. Together with
our field-proven hardware platforms, Advantech is capable of delivering
complete solutions, from device drivers to software applications,
from core CPU engines to complete certified systems with industry
approved mechanical and power solutions.
