PCI-6771 SBC Helps Japanese Manufacturer Capture Share of Mini Server Market

Advantech's PCI-6771 PCI single board computer is being used by a major Japanese manufacturer to help capture a share in the lucrative mini server market. With its compact size, fast PCI bus speeds, ability to use Pentium® III processors up to 850* MHz and ease of installation and use, the PCI-6771 integrated well into the server application and aligns well with the business needs of the manufacturer and their target customers.

Bookshelf-sized, Extremely Powerful

The mini server fits the needs of the SOHO market and small enterprise market with its all in one functionality. Mini servers can also be strategically integrated into large corporate networks, acting as groupware servers, web servers or providing firewall capabilites. The portability of these mini servers is critical, as is the ease of use and flexibility to be used as a stand alone-server or integrated into a larger network.

Proven Industrial Reliability, Expandable, Flexible

This Japanese manufacturer chose Advantech's PCI-6771 SBC and PCA-6104P4 backplane for this application for many reasons. First, the industrial grade construction and proven reliability of the SBC, backplane and component set, gave them the confidence their product could operate in the most demanding conditions. Next, the PCI-6771 SBC and backplane could be easily integrated into their chassis. For size, power, flexibility and reliability, the board solution fit their needs well. This also allowed them to reduce costs and decrease their time to market. Also, the ease of use of the PCI bus configuration answered their customers' needs perfectly. With the PCI bus, off the shelf add-on cards can easily be added. For example, extra ethernet ports can be easily added. This reduces end user costs and increases flexibilty. This particular company chose to use a Linux operating system as their standard offer. However, all major operating systems are supported. The familar PCI bus the ability to handle all standard operating systems makes installation, expansion and upgrade, easy. This factor is especially important in SOHO and small enterprise applications, leveraging standard PC-based knowledge and skills.
