PCA-6751Z Half-size Pentium® CPU Card Now Handles -20° to 80° C Temperature Range!

As you probably already know, Advantech has launched the Phoenix Operation of extreme temperature and reliability testing, and is constantly adding new products that can meet these stringent requirements. The PCA-6751Z low power Pentium® MMX™ half-size SBC is the latest product to meet this challenge. Choosing the products that can adhere to these standards involves a combination of factors. We will explain here what qualities and characteristics of the PCA-6751Z allow it to successfully meet these requirements (-20° C to 80° C operating range).

Typical Customers

Let us first describe the type of customers that need a "Phoenix tested" SBC for their application. Advantech has found they typically fall into two main categories:

1. Customers whose applications are truly operating in extreme temperature environments. These customers need the most pretesting they can get, with the added cost incurred for the testing service relatively low compared to the cost of an application failure or downtime.

2. Customers whose applications are operating in a "normal" temperature range (0° ~ 60° C), but want the most reliable product possible. Products that pass Phoenix testing are 100 % tested under the harshest conditions while live-running torture testing software. These products provide more reliabilty than "standard tested" products, mainly because the stresses the "extreme" testing puts on the system, eliminate the weaker boards.

A Proven and Reliable System

Of course, overall SBC sytem reliability depends on the individual components installed on the card. The PCA-6751Z's rock solid component set give it great performance and stability. The low power (< 2.0 V) Pentium® 266 MHz CPU is a stable and proven CPU solution. In addition to the CPU, other major components of the PCA-6751 use Intel EMD solutions. These include the 430TX system chipset and Intel 82559 10/100 Mbps Ethernet interface. Plus, the Asiliant (C&T) 69000 VGA/LCD controller is another well recognized industry proven component. Unlike regular commercial solutions, Intel EMD solutions provide higher system stability and longer product supply time. So, all these factors, plus PCB quality and manufacturing, add up to give overall system performance and reliability. The PCA-6751 is a proven performer and the PCA-6751Z builds upon this legacy..
