Low power POS-561 Offers a Cost Effective POS Solution with Off-the-Shelf Flexibility and Long Term Support

Advantech will soon release a new POS control board (POS-561) and chassis (POS-809) that combine the fanless/low power performance of the Geode™ GX1 processor with the space savings qualities of the Flex ATX form factor. This POS control board chassis combination provides a ready-to -go POS solution that greatly simplifies system integration.

The POS-561 is made with industrial grade construction that can withstand 24 hour a day use in applications that would destroy conventional POS control boards manufactured to consumer specifications. This includes increased resistance to vibration, shock, humidity, moisture and heat. The low power, fanless operation of the GX1-233 processor also enables reduced heat buildup in the chassis, helping to extend the MTBF of any system the board is applied to.

Committed to POS Market Needs

The POS-561's Flex ATX form factor reduces space requirements by about 32 percent over standard ATX POS control boards. This reduced size does not affect the upgradeability and expandability of the control board or the chassis. This is easily seen with the POS-561 mounted in the POS-809 chassis. The smaller, more compact chassis size still has all the standard features of a full size ATX cabinet. This is one of the primary benefits of the Flex ATX form factor. And unlike consumer grade POS board suppliers, Advantech guarantees long term support (minimum 3 years) on both the board and GX1 processor. Advantech knows this is important to POS customers, support for this year and years to come.

A Full Featured POS Solution

The POS-561 has all the features that make it a great POS control board. It has one ISA and one PCI expansion slot, plus two digital I/Os and four serial ports each with + 5 V/+ 12 V power. Supported peripherals range from bar code scanners, card readers, printers, cash drawers, customer supplied displays and more. The POS-561 is 100% PC compatible and ready to handle any existing PC software or hardware.

Other onboard features geared toward the POS market include a watchdog timer for dependability during unmanned (remote) operations, CMOS backup to Flash ROM and an onboard CompactFlash™ socket for up to 256 MB support.
